Mrs. C. A. Portz, Wife of Minister, Dies at Magnolia.

Mrs. Mary Greer Portz, wife of the Rev. Clarence A. Portz, a retired United Lutheran
minister, died Sunday night in her home here after an illness of three years.

Mrs. Portz was a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret C. Greer, early prominent
Magnolia residents.

Mrs. Portz graduated from old Central High School in 1911 and attended Wooster College.
As the wife of a Lurtheran pastor she resided in Cleveland, Wheeling, W. Va., and
Mansfield, returning to Magnolia in 1956.

She assisted her husband in his pastoral duties and directed choirs, was organist and took
part in other musical affairs. She was a member of Wittenberg Womens Guild and
Wittenbert Alumni Assn. Until her illness was an active member of Trinity Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Magnolia.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John F. Strawn of Canton, a
son R. Greer Portz of Minerva, a brother Richard C. Greer of Magnolia and four
grandchildren.

Funeral rites will be conducted Wednesday at 3:30 pm in Trinity Church, Magnolia with the
Rev. M. E. Shaffer in charge. The body will be placed in the mausoleum in Magnolia
Cemetary.

The body is at the McCreery-Kreighbaum-Finefrock funeral home in Magnolia where
friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The cashet will be taken to the church
an hour before the service.
