                                              DEATH CLAIMS MILTON PORTZ AT LAKEWOOD

Milton Portz, 85 of Lakewood, formerly of Massillon, died Wednesday in Lakewood Hospital after a long illness.
He retired in 1948 as secretary of the corporate committees in chemical and metallurgy work at Republic Steek
Corp in Cleveland. He was coauthor of a book "Open Hearth Practives" which Republic Steel uses in its training
program.
After being graduated from Wittenberg College and doing graduate work at Columbia Univeristy, he became
superintendent of schools in Hartville and Strasburg.
In 1915 he became chief chemist from Central Steel Alloy of Massillon, later being promoted to manager of the
methods and standards department. When Central mergered with Republic, he was named chief industrial engineer
of the Central Alloy District of Republic Canton-Massillon plants.
He was transferred to Republic's main office in Cleveland in 1936.
He is survived by his widow, Helen, a son and a sister of Dover, and two grandchildren.

Magnolia. Sunday, Sept. 17, 3:30 p.m. Visitation Zels Funeral Home, Lakewood, Saturday 3-5 and 7-9  p.m. and
at the church after 2:30 p.m. Sunday
