Elizabeth Mopschman Portz 1897 ~ August 31, 1972

Mrs. Elizabeth Portz, 74, formerly of 390 Harrison St., Magnolia, a school teacher
for 28 years and the widow of Rev. Clarence A. Portz, formerly of
Newsomerstown, died Thursday at the St. Lukes for the Aging in North Canton,
after a six year illness.
She was born in Beatrice Neb., a daughter of the late Rev. Lewis J. and Elizabeth
Trefz Mopschman.
She taught at Quincy, Piqua and Canton McKinley High School and was a former
president of the Sandy Valley board of education and a former board member of
Mercy Hospital in Canton.
A 1918 graduate of Wittenberg University, she took her Masters degree from
Columbia University in New York City. She had been a charter member of the Alpha
Delta Pi Alumini group in Stark County and a member of the Sandy Valley Woman's
Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and the College Club of Canton.
Surviving are a stepson and stepdaughter, R. Greer Portz of Springfield and Mrs.
John F. (Lois Ann) Strawn, Canton.
Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lurtheran Church at Magnolia with
burial in the Magnolia Cemetery.
