This is Chuck's fourth year at Hackley and during that time he has been one of the stars in football,
soccer, basketball and tennis, and he has even played second team hockey, as goalie, with great success.
He has captained the basketball team through tow hard seasons. Aside from athletics he has been
connected with the plays as a property man for two years. This, however, is only one side of Chuck and
is almost unnecessary because everyone that knows Hackley, knows of his athletic prowess. The other
side is that which his friends see, a large, jovial, fat fellow, always ready with some hind of humor to help
things along, and only very occasionally in a bad humor. We can find but one, or at the most, two, main
faults in his make-up. The first is his habit of borrowing everything from hats to slippers; even hair tonic
has a mysterious way of disappearing when he is around. The second, his apparently loud mouth. To
anyone not knowing him as we do, it would seem that he considered himself just one of the best little
guys on earth, but it is only one of his ways of being funny and even if he is a little egotistical, his egotism
is always so genial that no one can mind it for long. Charles is often in some sort of jam around here
because he carries his love of fun too far but by some miraculous means or by a great deal of graft, he
always managed to come out on top and very rarely is punished. We think he can talk the King out of
anything; at least he always seems to do so. Chuck never was much of a scholar, but when he gets out of
his constitutional laziness he can get good marks and we certainly wish this fellow, who has been one of
our best friends for so long, all the success in the world in getting to Yale, where he expects to spend the
next four years.
